Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said the result followed a 20 per cent increase the previous year.



Mr Yarwood said the popularity of cycling could be attributed in part to the council's expansion of the city's network of bike lanes, plus the addition of more bike parking spaces and storage areas in UParks.



He said 33km of bike lanes, including 3km of painted green lanes on streets with high numbers of accidents, had been added in the past five years.
